Telangiectasia, more commonly known as spider veins, is those small blood vessels near the surface of the skin that are between .5 and 1 millimeter in diameter. Most commonly found on the legs and face, these vessels are not vital to the circulation of blood and can result from a variety of factors, including genetics, pregnancy and prolonged sitting or standing. The blood in the spider veins is fed from a larger vein, and then trapped near the surface of the skin. Our lasers target the color in the spider vein, sealing it off from the feeder vein, thus causing the vein to collapse on itself and the blood to be reabsorbed into the body. Typically, anywhere from one to six treatments is needed for this to occur, depending on the person and vein.
